2 explosions occured minutes apart near Ankara's main train station at 10.04 am local time yesterday. At least 97 people have died, while more than 400 were injured in the city-centre explosions. Some 48 people are said to be in intensive care. Witnesses described powerful explosions that occurred about 50 yards and seconds apart, leaving a trail of bloodied corpses and screaming wounded. Most of the victims were attending a lunchtime demonstration calling for an end to the renewed conflict between the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Turkish government. “About 14,000 people were in the area. Two suicide bombers are believed to have caused the blasts”, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in a televised address to the nation. The reason for the attack isn't clear. Turkish government officials say they are treating the incident as a terrorist attack. PM has announced three days of national mourning.
