Mohan Sapkota, a spokesman for the Himalayan country's ministry of tourism, said the government is considering barring very young and very old climbers, as well as people with disabilities. Mr. Sapkota added that Everest should be a place of adventure, "not death". Everest climbing earns Nepal millions of dollars a year, but the government has faced with criticism after a series of disasters in recent years. Nepal currently bans people under 16 from attempting to climb Everest, but has no upper age limit. The oldest person to scale the peak was an 80-year-old Japanese climber.
